Miguel Milá

Miguel Milá

Miguel Milá (Barcelona, 1931) began his professional career in 1950, in his brother Alfonso Milá and Federico Correa’s architecture firm. He created his own design studio eight years later and since then his work has become a reference point of contemporary Catalan and Spanish design. His work is based on a rationalist pursuit of aesthetics, in which objects are simplified to maximize functionality. In his early years, Milá followed Bauhaus rationalism, always keeping a degree of freedom as a response to his personal vision and contextual requirements.

His work has been shown in several retrospective exhibitions, as part of the “Primavera del Disseny” at Manbar (1995), in the “Year of Design 2004” at Palau Robert, and in 2007, in a show called “Understanding How to Live”, at the Blanquerna Institute in Madrid. Also in 2007, the FAD organized a tribute to his career in “Cadena de Mestres”. He taught design at Elisava end Eina in the 60s and 70s. He is a member of ADI FAD since 1961.

His work in design has been recognized with important awards, such as the National Industrial Design Award (1987), the Cross of Sant Jordi of the Generalitat of Catalunya (1993), the Gold Delta (1961, 63, 64, 65, 68, 75, 77), a Special Delta de Oro (1986), the Silver Delta (1952, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 95, 2003 and 2005), The Good Industrial Design Award (1994), and the Compasso d’Oro Internazionale (2008).
